In 2006, a collaborative effort was formed among several local organizations, including St. Luke’s Hospital, Mercy Medical Center, the Cedar Rapids Medical Education Foundation, the Community Health Free Clinic, and Linn County Public Health. The goal was to address the healthcare crisis in Cedar Rapids. Residents needed a healthcare home to effectively manage their health conditions before they escalated to a crisis level that required emergency room visits. The Eastern Iowa Health Center (EIHC) was born, and became a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC).
Establishment of Linn Community Care, now known as the Eastern Iowa Health Center (EIHC). The center experiences approximately 11,000 patient visits in its inaugural year.
EIHC added Women’s Health and OB-GYN services.
