Laboratory Technician

The Laboratory Technician works to ensure proper operation of the EIHC in-house lab. This position also serves as a phlebotomist to complement LabCorp operations and to provide convenient lab access to patients.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities

  • Accurately obtains and inputs information from Athena EMR.
  • Ensures Universal Precaution protocols are followed at all times.
  • Uses proper technique during blood draws & processing samples.
  • Excellent knowledge of specimen preparation and processing of lab specimens.
  • Attends routine lab meetings with CMO, lab staff, and clinic manager.
  • Brings patients back for lab draws in a timely manner when covering for Lab Corp to perform phlebotomy.
  • Processes send out labs when covering for Lab Corp.
  • Correctly labels all specimens leaving EIHC lab for processing.
  • Perform all point of care tests that are currently offered at EIHC:
  • Complete Urinalysis with Micro
  • Urinalysis dipstick
  • Strep
  • RSV
  • Influenza
  • HCG
  • PT/INR
  • Glucose
  • Wet mount
  • Ferning
  • KOH Prep
  • Hemoglobin
  • Takes verbal lab results via phone and calls or pages critical results to appropriate staff.
  • Orders and stock supplies for lab.
  • Enter all outside lab reports into EMR.
  • Maintains clinical lab inbox and ensures proper follow up is done.

Quality Responsibilities

  • Ensures daily QA/controls of lab kits.
  • Maintains all log books pertaining to CLIA certification.
  • Updates lab manual as needed to reflect current tests offered at EIHC.
  • Ensures the Director of Laboratory signs all necessary forms.
  • Maintains accurate records of all lab procedures.
  • Order, perform, and keep records for all quarterly proficiency testing.
  • Add/Delete tests from proficiency testing as lab needs change.
  • Knowledge of CLIA requirements for keeping records.

    • Responsible to be knowledgeable and comply with EIHC policies, procedures, and manuals pertinent to the department.
    • All employees are responsible to comply with all safety and health rules and regulations applicable to their work.
    • Participates in assigned committees.
    • Resource for lab questions for all staff and providers.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Certified Medical assistant or Lab Technician
  • Excellent communication skills

Preferred Qualitifications

  • One year of experience in related field
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
