Know the signs
It’s important to know when to seek help from a physician or a counselor. Left untreated, mental illnesses can affect your thinking, mood, and activities.
If you think you or someone you love may be suffering, take a look at these warning signs on the American Psychiatric Association’s website. One or two symptoms may not mean that you have a mental illness, but it never hurts to ask.
If you are thinking about suicide or think that a loved one may be, seek help immediately. The local crisis hotline, provided by our local community partners at Foundation 2 is available to help 24/7. The Foundation 2 Crisis Hotline can be reached at 1-800-332-4224 or 319-362-2174.
Mental illness is not your fault
There are many causes from your genes, family history, and your life experiences, such as stress or a past of abuse. Biological factors can also be a cause.
