Chief Development & Marketing Officer (Full-Time)

Under the direction of the President & CEO and serving as a member of the Eastern Iowa Health Center (EIHC) Executive Team, the Chief Development & Marketing Officer (CDMO) works to advance the mission and work of the organization by implementing and managing a multifaceted fundraising, marketing and outreach programs. Works collaboratively with the President & CEO, the Board of Directors, the Executive Team and EIHC staff and volunteers to initiate and accomplish a successful, comprehensive annual fundraising campaign. In addition, the CDMO oversees internal and external communications, marketing, public relations and organizational outreach as they relate to the promotion of the organization, its activities and fundraising objectives.

Activities include responsibility for fundraising; special events; federal, state and local grant writing and comprehensive grants management; oversee database maintenance; donor gift acknowledgement process; coordination of direct mail campaigns, marketing strategies and campaigns; oversee staff; and other activities as requested in support of EIHC’s mission. EIHC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.  73% of the 55,000 patients we’ll see this year are at or below 100 percent of the Federal Poverty Level.  If a patient can’t pay for any of our services—Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Dental, Behavioral Health or OB/GYN—we treat them anyway.  Federally Qualified Health Centers are at the heart of the safety net.


  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors and President & CEO to create a fund development plan to adequately meet the needs of the organization, including relevant revenue and expense management
  • Responsible for the oversight of all EIHC marketing initiatives, including but not limited to advertising campaigns, media relations, outreach and speaking engagements
  • Generate sufficient financial and volunteer support to supplement staff/budgeting constraints EIHC faces when expanding services
  • Responsible for all EIHC grant writing, reporting and compliance, including federal grants, state, regional and local applications
  • Responsible for development and execution of all fundraising and special events
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with prospective funding sources, including major donors, corporations, community organizations, individuals and corporate and private foundations
  • Assists the Board of Directors and President & CEO in obtaining donations, in-kind contributions and shared services with other organizations
  • Oversees and guides a team to conduct community outreach and develop partnerships to further the EIHC mission
  • Oversees and assists in the development of fundraising/community materials, such as annual reports, direct mail pieces & advertisements; oversees updates to social media for the purposes of community awareness and fundraising
  • Enforces brand management in all facilities physical and virtual, manages website design/maintenance/SEO and serves as primary media contact

Geographic Location of Position

Office location is in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  Travel throughout Iowa on a sporadic basis.  Other travel to conferences and the like may occur on an infrequent, intermittent basis.

Terms of Employment

The CDMO must present themselves professionally in the representation of the organization to others, be well groomed, and display expertise in written and oral grammar and conversational ability.  Superuser of federal funding interface must be accomplished within 12 months.

This position requires exceptional interpersonal communications skills; specifically, the ability to effectively convey the overview, as well as the intricacies, of the EIHC mission, vision and values in person and virtually.  Self-motivation and accountability are required in this position.  A valid driver’s license and functional automobile are required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; post-graduate degree preferred
  • Five or more years of related work experince; 7 – 10 years preferred
